HI, I own a Maytag Quiet Series 100 that began experiencing problems about two months ago - wouldn't completely drain, dirty dishes. Finally called a local appliance repair store. The guy came out, was bummed he couldn't fix it "in a half an hour that's what's usual' (his words) and was also bummed that he had to take the unit out. (Huh? Isn't that this job?) But anyway, he determined that the 'little' pump that helps the water go out was bad, quoted me $60 for the part, $110 for labor, would have to order the part and come back, OK, I say. He comes back, replaces the part, does a test while it's still in the middle of the floor, seems to be fine. Then he move it back into place and then ... nothing. No response from the touchpads.
He's really bummed at this point, tests for power, says it's ok, that 'the board must have just gone' Huh? I say? He doesn't know what to say either, other than maybe the board has to be replaced too. I said I wasn't up for more repair money (had the original diagnostic reflected all that, I would have passed, paid him a call fee and bought a new one when I could) which he acknowledges. Neither of us can figure out what to do. Could the 'board' just quit like that? What would be fair? He mentioned selling me a used dishwasher, getting another part (and settling for $200-would that work?) or cutting his losses (meaning him with no money, me with no dishwasher) He left without being paid (no anger, we were both just perplexed). Any thoughts?

First you are in the wrong forum section, this is for Clothes Washers so you may want to re-post in the Dishwasher section. Second a model number would be helpful. Model Number LocatorIt is hard to say what has happened though your description does not give me a feeling that the repair guy is very competent. Did he unplug or trip the breaker when he moved the unit back into place? Units should not be moved when they have power. Also how/where in the unit did he check for power once it was re-installed? I would not buy a used unit from this person unless it came with a written warranty and you have some confidence that he will honor the warranty. |
