My refrigerator worked great for about 4 years then last Tuesday it just started making a buzzing and then a clicking sound from the compressor area about every 15 to 20 seconds and it is not cooling at all now. Is this the compressor or is it the capacitor and starter and do you have to buy both the starter with the capacitor and the run capacitor as well.
Thanks
David

If the compressor start device look like the AP4079373, take a picture of the wiring to it and order a new one, will probably fix your compressor starting problem.

Got a new capacitor and relay didnt work so I am asuming the compressor is toast.

An amprobe would confirm high start and run current. Best refrigerator on the market is a GE. I have seen a lot of Frigidaire and Maytags fail, but not GE.
If you fail to buy a new GE, put a 1000 joule surge protector in the wall outlet.

I had same problem w/my 6 year old amana. Replaced start capacitor etc
worked a week or so then reoccured. You probably need a new
compressor. this a common problem with Amana from that era, and tecumsah compressor from that era. Junk
