I have an Amana (Whirlpool) washer that would not spin. Removed basket and checked for something between the tubs and found nothing. Removed transmission and found brake shoes were stuck. Freed brake shoes, went to install the inner basket and it appears the tube is not sticking out far enough to get the block down far enough to match up with the notches on the tube. Please help with any advice. I have taken it apart twice checking for obstructions and everything underneath appears normal. Thank you.

I have a whirlpool washer with the exact problem asked here five years ago and no one ever answered the poor guy. I removed the transmission and now it won't seat far enough in to allow the three bolts to be screwed back on. Can anyone help?

Are the brakes fully installed? If they were removed they will open up and you have to close them a bit to get it up in the brake drum? (do not know the exact word for where they sit). I would search for a video that shows how to remove the brakes and you may see something you did wrong. The transmission can only go on one way so I can not see how you are having a problem installing it.

Thanks, did not think of that. I just pulled the clutch with the brake intact. I'll give it a go and report back.

I can not remember exactly witch one of the two it was but I have had this problem before. I would check the brake tube shaft or the transmission shaft and make sure they are free of any metal burrs. I have had problems inserting the brake shaft/tube at times because it can get rust and metal burrs from the drive block. I just lightly sand them with fine sand paper to clean the shaft up.
