My Whirlpool electric dryer starting making a clunking/clanking/thumping noise when the drum was rotating...

My research indicated that perhaps a drum roller was bad.

I took the dryer apart, and visually inspected the 2 drum rollers, but am not sure what a 'good' or 'bad' drum roller should look like...

Question 1: How likely is the drum roller to be the cause of this problem?
Question 2: How can I confirm that the problem is a drum roller?

Thanks!

Rollers will usually develop flat spots which give the rapid thumbing sound that echoes through the drum, or get hard witch will give the slower, double-thump sound. The rollers and their associated shafts are what supports the drum, so if you are getting noises as the drum rotates, they are the likely item to be replaced.
