Hello everyone,

I actually have 2 washers doing the same thing. One is a kenmore one is a roper. The issue has to be in the transmission but I can tell what it could be.

The problem: If you let the washer run through its cycles it will not spin during the draining process or during spin even though the motor is running. Unless you lift the lid, unplug, or otherwise let the motor slow down a little, then it will engage and spin up normally.

I have check the drive coupler and it is fine, I have checked the motor and it is fine, the clutch appears to be good but it may need a second look. But to test the transmission I hooked it up to the motor and ran the machine through the cycles with the motor and tranny just on the bench. The motor did reverse when it was supposed to, but still no engaging of the tranny to spin mode, unplugged and then it engaged.

I took the tranny apart to check the neutral drain pack and was expecting the sheered pawl nut, but it was intact. The gears look ok to me, although I am an amateur.

Any hints or help from here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brett

The timer must interrupt power during the spin period to allow the tranny clutch to engage. Just verify, then order a new timer.

How can I test that to be sure. I know the timer stops and restarts the motor in the opposite direction, as I can see it reverse. Are there some leads I should test with a volt meter?

Thanks for the advice so far!

Turn the timer to any wash period and let it go till it goes into spin.If timer fails to stop power during spin, you have a bad timer. During agitate, the clutch disengages. It will not engage till it is in spin for a period of time, then power pause engages it.

Yes, but what do I look for to tell me if it stops power. Also i want to trick it into thinking the water is in the tub. There are 3 wires going into the the water level switch, which 2 would I short to jump the circuit?

Thanks again,
Brett
