I found today that my side by side had quiet freezing/cooling today. As I begin to check I found the coils under the fridge were clogged. The compressor was hot and only running about 12seconds and then shutting down for a few minutes. I removed the rear cover from the frezer and these coils were not froze. There is no hot or cold lines comming off the compressor, only slightly warm and cool. Did the clogged coils kill my compressor or could it possably be one of the starter/ overload relays?? I cooled the compressor with a small fan and still have the same problem. We are currently opperating our fridge for 2 small girls out of a cooler so ""ANY"" help will be greatly appriciated. Thanks, Mike

Most likely the starter ( AP3885081) has failed and now the compressor is on an endless cycle of trying to start, then shutting off on the overload. That the starter off the compressor and give it a shake. If it sounds like a baby rattle, it is bad. A new starter should get you back up and running.

Thanks for the help Brian. I removed the relay last night and sure enough it rattled on the inside. I went to a local shop this morn and got a new relay for $75.00 and re-installed. The compressor now comes on fine and hopefully will blow cold air in an hour or so. Again thanks for the help.

Sounds good. That price seems a bit steep for a relay, but if it gets you refer cooling again, probably money well spent.

Hope you installed the run capacitor if it had one, usually near the compressor.
