I originally thought that the start cancel button was broken as the dishwasher would not turn on with the start/cancel button but I could get the timer to work (delay 1 hour)
However after taking apart the front panel and messing with it I realized that the start/cancel button works just fine HOWEVER.
The door latch appears to be working the opposite or creating an opposite effect anyway.
The lever mechanism presses down on two tiny plastic prongs in the apparent "door closed" position (all inside the door of the dishwasher) its not in the tub - all apart of the latch mechanism. If the two prongs are pressed down - the dish washer powers off - start cancel button does nothing.
If I move the lever so that it releases i.e. as if I had opened the door,(The two prongs are now NOT pressed down)
presto - everything works like a champ.
Ive been staring at the lever for an hour, makes no sense.
To my knowledge no one has ever taken the machine part, fixed it, never had any problems with it other than kids being stupid maybe so I doubt its wiring.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

FYI - I bought a new circuit board and new latch.
Lucky me - it ended up being the latch assembly.($45 vs $160) Once I replaced it and connected it all back up - it properly read the door being open and closed and powered on and off correctly.
