The Whirlpool washes great, but when it spins, it goes slow, then fast (only for a few seconds),and back to slow...I think a belt or something is slipping?? and the water is not spun out of the clothes enough to put them in dryer. Their is a small amount of water also left in the bottom....thanks for any insite into this problem....and where is the model number? Melanie

Need model # to help. Does it spin up to speed with a small load? Lift the lid, model # should be on the top in back.

I do smell a faint of odor on spin, kinda' rubbery...that is why I thought it may be a belt of some kind?....Melanie

You have a direct drive washer. Seems like you either have something stuck in the tub, or dragging brake shoes.
With the motor struggling like that I would not use it in spin, danger of it smoking! I would remove the control panel screws, tilt it back and remove the two ripply clips and lid switch connector. Remove outer cabinet and shine a light in the spin basket. If something in there, you should be able to remove it with a coat hanger.
If ok, you have dragging brake shoes. To replace these, go to my article "replacing direct drive washer brake shoes", just crunch into the search box. A lot of work that a "mechanically inclined person" could do.
