I have a 48" side by side that works except it makes a horribly loud intermittent noise. I was told it is the evaporator motor fan that needs to be replaced. How long should that part last? It is barely 3.5 yrs old. Started right at the 3 year mark. A different repairman installed a new drip pan and heater because there was an ice build up on the walls of freezer. The noise stopped and came back a few months later. It seems like a $6,000 fridge should have parts that last longer. Is it normal for evaporator fan motor to be replaced in this short of a time?

But, I would have to believe your icing, defrost drain problem is back. If that repair is not done properly, exactly according to the instructions supplied, you problem can, and usually returns in a short period of time. :( :( :(
