our Maytag washer started smelling like something burning last night and would not agitate but the spin cycle worked and drained the water.. Does anyone know what the problem might be.

The first thing I would do is check both belts.

Here are the break down diagrams and the parts list for the Maytag washer Model LAT8214AAE

I just found out the trasmission is gone..I am going to buy a new washer this weekend. Thanks for the help
