I have an older model Whirlpool refrigerator that got warm in the freezer and refrig. compartments. When I turn it off then on it gets cold then warm. I replaced the defrost timer and repaired a broken wire going to the overload protection sensor. Now the cold cycle seems to react a little different, but it still goes from cold to warm. Does a compressor relay cause this type of problem? I did a Google check for the relay and found it is hard to fine one. I did fine a source that has one for $132.00 (seemed high). Also, I did a continuity check on the S and M terminals of the relay, and got infinity readings with the relay turned right side and upside down. Before purchasing it, I would like some idea that part could cause my symptoms.
Also, I wonder if anyone knows of another source where I could purchase this relay? I plan on checking with my local appliance store on Monday.

Sorry, something went wrong on my first response. I had trouble finding your reference. You give two links. Which link has the information you reference?
Also, do you have an opinion on my question?

Actually gave 3 links, all have info that should help. Here they are as http's Just copy them into your browser then change the hxxp to http Did this so they will not be changed to links
hxxp://forum.appliancepartspros.com/refrigerator-freezer-repair/24278-compressor-relay-question.html
hxxp://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator.html
hxxp://www.technicianbrian.com/ Choose "Refrigeration" on the right. Then scroll down the articles to"Maytag Refrigerator Not Cooling"
From your post I assume that when you plug the unit in, the compressor comes on, the freezer starts to cool then for some reason it stops and the freezer warms up. You did not say if it tries to start up again.
I do not think the relay would do this. If your compressor is getting very hot the overload could be opening. Once cooled down it should again start. |
