I have an Amana gas dryer model#alg643rbw, serial#f0106151589 The ignitor glows and it lights the gas but it only stays lit for a few seconds. I read about the coils on the gas valve and wonder if that applies to this model dryer. thanks

If you find the burner will ignite one or two times and then it won't ignite again, then yes you are probably in need of some new coils (AP3094251). The coils will become weak with age and you will notice the igniter glows, but the burner will only ignite one or two times. After that, each time the igniter glows, the valves never turn on. An easy repair, they only go on one way.
