When the timer is in an on position the heater continues to run even when the door is open an the drum in not turning. It does shut off when I turn the control knob to an off position. Someone told me the motor might have a centrifical switch that closes when the motor is turning and it may have welded closed. I am not sure this has that or if it is just a simple part I could change out. Any info who be appreciated.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for MAYTAG MDE9316AYW DRYER- ELE | AppliancePartsPros.comMy guess would be a grounded element Check the heating coil. Unplug the unit and both wires to the coil. Check it with a meter, should be around 10 to 12 ohms. Then check from each side of the coil to the case/frame, both should be infinite ohms (open). If not the coil may have sagged or broken and is touching the case. This can cause it to run and the thermostats cannot regulate it. Also depending how/where it is grounded the motor's centrifugal switch cannot shut it off. |
