Whirlpool Trash Compactor Model# TU 8000XRP2 will not reverse. The ram will go down to its lowest point of travel, will stop and not reverse. The power nuts on top of the ram are in good shape as well as the gear on the motor as well as the large gear on the sproket that turns the drive chain. The threaded rods that the ram move on are in good shape also. Cycle switch can be set for normal or dense compacting, with either setting the same results occur. Cycle switch is moved from off to start and it returns to the mid point of on, the ram will move to its lowest point and then stop and the motor will then shut off. I can manual turn the drive chain to have the ram retract to its highest up position, start the process over and the ram moves down to its lowest point and then the motor shuts of again. Not sure but it there a switch that the ram should active on its downward movement that would reverse the drive to bring the ram back up after it has reached its lowest point of travel? Thanks:rolleyes:

Would it go up if you turn the "on-off" switch to "start" position?

Gene, I tried that, the ram just stays in its lowest position and will not retract. Thanks for your reply.
