Found the evaporator on parts page, looking for instructions how to install.

The evaporator is part of the refrigerators sealed system and should only be serviced by an EPA certified technician. Unfortunately, it is not a simple repair and requires the appropriate experience and certifications to complete.

You may want to get a second opinion unless you know that this repairman is trustworthy.
Perhaps add to this post or start a new one with:
what the original problem was
what the symptoms were
what you did if anything
what the repairman did to diagnose it as a bad evaporator
and any other info you think is relevant

Replacing an evaporator is fairly expensive and therefore a great revenue generator for a shady repairman.
If you do decide to get it fixed be sure to get a written estimate so you know the total cost (parts, travel, labor and supplies).
Often it makes more sense to get a new fridge.

Thanks for your helpful links and information.

The fridge has stopped running completely now. It was cooling(fridge) and freezing (freezer) but the temperature was not as cold on either as it should have been.

Do these symptoms tell you enough to diagnose any possibilities to check?
What is it about replacing parts of the sealed system that would prevent me from doing repairs myself?

Bob,

Can you be more specific on the problem? The symptoms from your post do not say anything, but the refrigerator is not working.

Gene.
