on a cold controler for a amana, part # c8907301, there's a red & yellow wires that go to the two connecting post on the bottom of the controer. do you know which one the red wire goes to?

The cold control is basically a switch so it doesn't matter which wire goes to which terminal. As long as they are properly connected, it should work properly.
