Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 5/26/2011(UTC) Posts: 1		my maytag mde9700ayw has 240volts at the motor when I turn it on, but will not turn on its own, the shaft spins freely, all terminals seem to ohm out propery and none shorted to the housing, the motor seems fine, what is next? there is a contactor type switch as part of the assembly, but I even cleaned that contact with no luck, how can I get a copy of the service manual? I tried some of the links here, but all want a lot of money to be a member of the site first. mostly I could use the diagnostic steps to narrow down this problem

And here is a service manual 16025911 Maytag 27 inch Dryer Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer. If you do actually have 240 volts across the motor then the motor is probably7 burned out and you also have a wiring problem. I do not think this is the case, I think you are measuring the 240 volts across the centrifugal switch. This switch closes when the motor gets close to operating temperature and ensures that the heater does not come on when there is not air flow. The motor runs off of 120 volts. I am assuming that you have checked for the 120 volts. The first thing I would check is the belt switch and then the safety thermostat. File Attachment(s): MDE9700.pdf (124kb) downloaded 7 time(s).
