Hello,
My Kenmore 70 Series electric Dryer is exhibiting weird behavior. It will start, but only if the timer is in certain places (and these places vary from day to day). Generally, it almost always starts around 10 minutes on Timed Dry and sometimes it will start at 40ish or 80ish minutes, and normally, if it starts, it runs through the whole cycle to the end and the timer seems to work. The dryer does heat, though I'm not positive if it heats as much as it ought to. Sometimes I can get it to start in other places by holding the start knob in while turning the timer.
Is this something I should call a pro in to fix or can I save money doing it myself? I don't normally work on appliances but I make part of my living working on PCs, so I'm familiar with that sort of tinkering. Thanks for any and all assistance.
Michael

Are there any other details I could give that might help someone troubleshoot this issue?

Hi Michael. Sorry we missed your first post. Sounds like the problem is a bad timer. - The timer Part number: AP3100522
Gene. P.S. If it would not fix the problem, you can return the part to Appliance Parts Pros.

I ordered the suggested timer and finally got time to work on replacing it today. After taking the back panel off, I discovered that the timer I ordered is ALMOST exactly the same as the one in the dryer. :( I compared all the label text on the timers and they're nearly identical. Both are model M460-G. However, there is one number that's different. The timer in the dryer has this number on the label:
013-96355
And the timer I ordered has this number instead:
013-96354
Is it possible to use the timer I ordered, leaving off a couple of wires here or there, or do I need to return it and order the 96355 timer instead?
Oh - and by the way, when I search my dryer's model number on your site, it only lists a Gas Dryer, and this 013-96354 timer is the only option listed for it. However, my actual dryer is electric. (I assure you the model number is correct. I've triple-checked.) Could that have anything to do with the issue?

Michael,
According to the model number you posted (11079812990) this dryer used gas as the heating source or, in the other word this is gas dryer per Sears. Anyway, I will forward it to the APP customer service.
Gene.

Did some more research - it was originally a gas dryer but apparently it came with a conversion kit for electric, which must have been used. The model number is correct. (I am not the original owner of this unit.) Nonetheless, the part is still not quite correct for the dryer. I was able to find a match on Amazon after looking everywhere else on the internet. (Needed 3976577. Part sent was 3976576A, which is the only one I found at your site corresponding to my dryer model. I have requested a return for the timer and shipped it back today. Thank you for your assistance in any case!)
