Works on non solid compacting where it goes down and comes back up, but on solid compacting it goes down part way and then makes a loud noise sort of like a gear slipping or banging. I have cheked that there is no obstruction in its way and it is clear of any debri. When brought back up from that position it does not seem to sense where to stop or turn off automatically.

Remove the trash compactor from the cabinet. Remove the top cover and check the power nuts (#12 on the break down diagram). Lubricate the power screws using a special designed grease.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid trash compactor Model KUCS02FRSS1

What is the easiest way to access the power nuts, part no. 12, on the diagram when replacing them. It seems that just removing the top cover does not allow enough access, must the sides be removed also.
