Please help, my gas dryer is staining my white towels as the vent/box inside the drum (it's entirely metal, a pierced vent inside the drum where clothes load) has rusted in a few spots and is ruining my good whites.
Item: Bulkhead Box
Part Number: AP2946838 made by WHIRLPOOL
Is there any way to clean rather than totally replace this part? Dryer is old but working fine just leaves occassional deposits. Was afraid of using cleanser that might not be heat resistant. Thanks for your advice!!!

You'd be better off to replace it, but if not possible pull it out and clean it off (a little buffing with some steel wool) and paint with some rustoleum hightemp paint might work.
