After restoring power to the clock module (main circuit board had to be replaced after a brown out) on my Jenn-air SVE47600W electric oven all touch pad controls work except for the "cancel off" touch pad and the time and temperature touch pads. Does this mean the touch pad membrane also needs to be replaced? Or is something else the problem?

Here is your parts breakdown Model SVE47600WHere is a service manual http://www.servicematters.com/m...ibrary/docs/16010191.pdfFound the Cancel key but could not find the time and temp. Perhaps they are listed as something else Wanted to see if they all used a common line as it would help in troubleshooting Could be you just have a bad connection RIBBON CABLE CLEANING Unplug the unit Open it up Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board. Clean the edge connector. If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here. Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates. Reconnect everything and give it a try. |

Thank you for your quick response. I looked in the service manual and see that in the membrane pad/circuit chart in section 1-16 that circuit 4 (digital input keys don't work) and circuits 1 and 2 (cancel pad doesn't work) may be the problem circuits. I cleaned those circuits on the ribbon with a pencil eraser but that did not solve the problem. I don't think the problem is with the ribbon receiver in the clock module since when I replaced the current clock module with the original clock module (i.e., replaced it because the clock light went out) all functions worked except the the digital keys (for time and temperature settings) and and the cancel key. Can you think of anything else left to do besides replacing the switch membrane?

If it was me I would check the tacks 4, 1 and 2 back from the edge connector to where they attach to the board to see if perhaps it is just a track that is open. But I do not have the parts in my hands so do not even know if it is possible to take the assembly apart so you could get to the attachment point on the keypad itself. Also I have a fair amount of experience on repairing electronics and like to mess with things. Even if you found the ribbon cable bad. you may have problems obtaining a replacement ribbon cable and trying to repair one can be a pain. On top of this if you had to pay someone to do this, labor costs add up quickly and might even exceed the cost of a new keypad assy.
So even though I hate to say it, I really cannot think of anything other than replacing it. |
