When I try to turn on the Broiler I get an F13 error code. Oven and everything else works fine.
I select broiler and 550 degrees comes up on the panel. When I select "Start" is when I get the F13 code. I cycle the power to the Oven at the breaker panel, and leave off for 30 seconds. Codes goes away and I can use everything on the Range/Oven except the "Broiler" function. I can repeat this over and over.
Any advice on what is wrong, and associated part numbers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Trey

F13 Is usually, a bad clock control board, but I would ohm out the element to be sure it is good. Tom

Yes, Kill the power first. Then you can either pull the element out from the front, or pull the oven out, and take the back off, and pull the wires of the element, and ohm it out. If you get any continuity reading it is good. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Before I do...if the oven is working fine wouldn't that indicate the element is OK?
I will go try it now. I also didn't see any description or part number listed for the clock control board you mentioned.

I was under the impression the bril element did not come on. I just wanted to be sure it was good, before you went to the expense of replacing the board. Tom

I may not be understanding the difference between the oven functioning and the broiler element.
Does the top element function during normal oven operation when baking? I ask because I can bake fine. If the top element is only used during the broil then I will definately check.
Sorry Tom for the confusion.

The broil element does not come on during bake. That is OK for the confusion. I just want you to check everything, before you go to the expense of a control board. Tom

I recently had a repairman out to fix the F13 error code... long story short, I ended up resolving this on my own and thought I'd share what worked for me on the off chance that this will work for someone else... On my model (Kenmore Elite Model C970-688024), I unplugged the two ribbon wires (unplug the stove first!) and reconnected them. I then unplugged the two blue wires (from the wiring diagram for my stove, these were the two blue wires that connected to the broiler element - top element in case you didn't know) and reconnected these. I then plugged the stove back in. After pressing broil, I changed the temperature from the default 550 to 450, hit the start button and voila! The broiler worked. I then tested again using 550 with the same results. I'm not sure which of the above helped, but my stove is now working properly. So, unplug the user interface (thin ribbon wires), the wires to the broiler element and change the default temperature to something other than 550... worked for me - might work for you and save you 500 bucks for a new board and labour. For the longer story, my repairman installed a new board, but put the ribbon in upside down (the contacts are only on one side)... He then put the old board back in (same wrong way) and left me with an oven that no longer worked and a bill for a hundred bucks - what a deal! I took the stove apart shortly aftewards and realized that the one ribbon was not installed correctly... now you have the whole story. Good luck!
