Our microwave has been sparking- and today a little bit of fire shot out from the problem area.
There are 4 little brackets that hold the middle wire shelf up. The back far right bracket is sparking- and now has some black charcoal looking stuff from it. I looked it up online, and I read that the bracket may be loose and needs to be repaired.
I am looking at the diagrams and cannot figure out which part is is?
Any suggestions, or help?
I called Whirpool- and they want to charge $130 to come and look at it (parts not included). Is this an easy fix, do we need a new microwave? I would appreciate any and all help!

According to " Use and Care manual" (page 6) the cooking rack has been designed specifically for two-level cooking and has to be inserted inside the microwave when cooking on two levels only. Otherwise it has to be stored outside the microwave. That's what caused damage to the oven walls and rack supports (#6 on the diagram). Remove all damaged rack supports. Clean all burned spots on the oven walls using a sandpaper and repaint them with an appliance touch-up paint. Replace all damaged rack supports if you are going to use the cooking rack in the future. - The rack support Part number: AP3180212

Thank you so much Gene. In your expert opinion- do you think it is safe to fix it- or do you think it needs to be replaced? I worry about problems in the future- microwaves just make me nervous!

It depends on how big is the damage. I fixed them a lot.

My husband and I keep going back and forth between fixing it and buying a new one). I went to Sears today and priced one out- they are having a sale on Sunday- and we could get a similar one for around $175-200. We are just worried that the problem may never be fixed completely- and with something like a microwave, we are not sure we want to risk it (I have read some scary stories online).
