Sirs,
Freezer no longer keeping food frozen, cold (about 30 F), but not cold enough to keep things solidly frozen. Dial inside freezer set on max of 6. Refrigerator contents nice and cold. Looked under and on back for timer. No luck. Don't think I overlooked it. Serial number for unit is 40AA2404. Read some blogs that it might be defrost thermostat? Can you help?

Could not find FPE21TML1 but here is FPE21TFL1 parts Model FPE21TFL1
Your timer looks like it is in the fresh food section at the top Item 26 in "3 Shelves and Supports" section Remove the evaporator coil cover to confirm that it is a defrost problem re: coils heavily iced over. Turn the defrost cam to a defrost cycle ( evap fan shuts off and compressor shuts off) It only turns in one direction usually there is a hole in the cover to let you do this Does the defrost heater come on. Be careful, do not burn your fingers. If yes, the timer is probably shot. If no, check the defrost heater and thermostat with a meter. Note the defrost thermostat must be frozen to be closed (0 ohms). It is open at room temperature. Here is a link that has some basic info http://www.applianceaid.com/refrigerator.html |
