The best way to describe it is a round bobber type part in the front right bottom corner of the inside of the dishwasher. The tick is comming from under the dishwasher directly under the bobber. If you move the bobber up and down you can hear the tick. Is it the swich going bad and ticking or could it be that the dishwasher is putting too much water in the wash cycle and setting it off?

It will not be the switch. It seems to be doing what it is supposed to. I also do not think it is the water valve. The usual problem is under-filling not over-filling. Unless the valve is leaking water into the tub when it is not supposed to. When the switch is ticking open the unit up and check the water level if it is at thje float level then there is too much water in the unit. If it is lower then it could be something is out of place and a water spray is hitting the float at a weird angle pushing it up. My best guess is that you have drain problem. The unit is not emptying all the way and then when fresh water is added it triggers the float/overfill switch which shuts off the water valve but the unit is still overfilled. Check that your drain hose is clear. A common spot for them to clog is where it attaches to the house plumbing. Check/clean the pump and filters.
