My refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling this week. I unplugged it for a day and plugged it back in and it still is not cooling.

  • It is receiving power - lights on and fans running
  • Condensor clean
  • Adjusting thermostat does not make a difference
  • Compressor makes a slight humming sound and is hot
Should I test the relay or other parts, or if the compressor is on but it's not cooling does that indicate an internal failure and it needs to be replaced?

Thank You

I have the exact same problem with a 10 year old side by side kenmore. Yesterday it stopped cooling. The coils are clean, the condensor is running and warm. What was your results?

It still doesn't work - haven't tried to fix it yet. Was hoping someone on here would let me know if it's worth trying to fix or if it's an internal problem that can't be repaired. Sounds like you have the same problem.

Pry off the side cover on the compressor and remove the black ptcr device. If it rattles when shaken, it's bad, order a new one AP3601983
Make sure when you replace it to add the run capacitor, a black item. Good idea to take a picture of wire placement.
