My Maytag Performa washer's spin speed is very slow till all water is evacuated. After water is emptied out the spin comes up to normal speed. The drive belt is relatively new. What's wrong?

Hank,

You need to check the motor carriage slides and springs, make sure the motor moves freely, and the base of the carriage is clean and well lubricated. With a relatively new belt, make sure the pump belt is properly adjusted(a 1/8 to 1/4 in. opening between the inner belt surfaces when "pinched" in the middle of the pump belt is the proper adjustment. Also check and make sure the motor pulley and transmission pulley(s) are clean and grease free.

Good Luck,
:) :) :) :)
