My Maytag washing machine started making a loud noise this morning. It starts during the wash cycle for a moment and goes away, then restarts during the rinse and cycles. Also occasionally misses a final spin cycle, in the past 2 months. (not sure the 2 problems are even related)

It is very difficult to diagnose a noise problem because we really need to be there to hear it and try to tell where it is coming from.

Take off the front cover and see if you can determine the source of the noise. If it is from inside the transmission it can be brakes or the transmission itself.
