I've read all the prior posts re: tension springs. Great job Evo with posting pix and other info. I have a SS model and Kitchen Aid insists the spring part number I need is 4451009 (which is indicated on their website). When I questioned "her" about right or left, after 5 minutes of being on hold she came back to tell me it was a set of two springs. Called them back today, they still insist that's the part number and I cannot speak to a Manager about this problem as the Manager doesn't have any more info than they do. Oh, and also, things I might be reading on the internet are probably just a minority of the people having problems.......

I have decided to listen to "The Pros" and my order is placed, but the ones I ordered are different prices, indicating to me that one is heavy duty and one is the lighter duty which I thought in one of the threads it was mentioned to get the same thickness and not do the heavy weight/light weight. I believe I ordered AP3137553(LH) and AP3082257(RH) (right hand is heavier duty).

I am so confused and cannot believe a company as big as Kitchen Aid can have this going on....oh, yes I can.

Your thoughts? Oh yeah, the bulb burned out too...that's just another $40 or so....one more thing....husband scratched front of unit so we could save money and not have repair man come out..... Life is Good! Really it is!

Your assessment is correct and it looks like you are ordering the correct parts. The right one is more expensive because of it being stronger to support the extra weight of the stainless door. When it arrives, it will have blue paint on one end where as the normal spring has yellow. If I had a dollar for everyone at KA that doesn't know this information, well I wouldn't need to be be doing this much longer.
