The fridge was warm, the freezer was cold. I removed the inside back panel from the freezer and the evaporator was frozen solid in the top 50% or so. The ice was encrusting the wires and the copper line that comes out if the top. It was a couple of inches thick around the copper. I unplugged the two wire plug on the left side that I thought was the heating element. It has a red wire and a black wire. It had around 31 ohms of resistance. It appears that it actually was on wire from the Thermodisc and one wire from the element with the rest of the wiring tucked in behind the condenser with no visible plugs. I defrosted everything with a hair dryer. Once I plugged it back in, I noticed that there still wasn't any cold air flowing into the refrigerator. I removed the damper assy and found the damper closed. I opened it by hand. I turned the temp control all the way down and it stayed open. I turned itback up and put the crews back in it and closed the door to see if it cooled off. When I opened it 10 minutes later, the damper was closed again. How do I test the damper? I assume it could be a sensor that isn't reading right that is closing it, or it could also be the main board. How do I rule each of these out? Could this have also caused the freezer to ice up if it was stuck closed?

So, it looks like the damper is linked to the refrig. door light and will close if the door is open for too long, so I might be on the wrong track with the damper. Been running fine for over 12 hours now. I am guessing the problem has to do with the defrost. How do I test?
