This is regarding the Whirlpool Gold Dishwasher Model GU2300

1) My dishwasher runs forever. A normal load takes over 2 hours, perhaps 2 1/2. (We rinse before we load so the soil level is not too high).

2) My dishwasher leaves soap residue and sometimes does not clean real well.

I had a repair person here today who said that the long run time is normal. I am uncertain whether that makes sense because it is Energy Star compliant.

He said that the soap residue is due to having used powdered dishwasher detergent in the past and the possibility that some of it did not dissolve and re-crystallized in the sump. He said the fact that there are a lot of suds even without detergent points to that. He told me to run white vinegar through a full cycle and always use the high temperature option.

In your opinion (s), are these reasonable responses and solutions?

Thank you,
Mark

If you have the hi temp options pushed it is normal .......a normal cycle with no options is at least an hour and a half These new dishwashers can run for hours and use very little electricity check the energy guide I think it costs like 20 some dollars a year with a gas water heater. The residue may be hard water deposits take a sample to any Sears store and they will test it for freeor if you do have soft water cut down on detergent and dont use the tabs you may have oversudsing going on open the door in the main wash when the soap cup opens and see if there is any sudsing going on

Thank you for your reply. Normally we don't use the hi-temp wash but are trying it to see if it helps dissolve soap better. It definitely sounds like the long run time is not an issue.

Regarding the over-sudsing. We do not have hard water, there isn't any residue left in the dishwasher at all and we have really reduced the amount of soap we use, hardly any.
