A few months back, I replaced the oven ignitor.
I ordered it online and it arrived in a package labeled ' Electrolux '
They were made by the same manufacturer and physically, they appeared to be the same.
I have a Maytag oven, so I called and made sure that I didn't receive the wrong part, the supplier (not APP) insisted that it was exactly the same.

It appeared that the oven was working correctly at first, but it went back to the original problem of not wanting to heat over 250.
I then replaced the clock and that also appeared to fix the problem for awhile but not for long.
Now, I understand that if the gas valve isn't detecting the correct signal from the ignitor that the gas valve will not open and the oven heat.
(Am I correct?)

I have had this gas valve on back-order for 3mos now, but I am beginning to wonder if I'm after the wrong part.

Could this 'Electrolux' ignitor be my problem?

Thanks for your input, tommyboy84

The Electrolux ignitor is a substitue but is should work fine. I would lean more toward the oven sensor part #12001655 or APP #Sensor (made be Whirlpool) Which nows owns Maytag.

Hey nat,
Thanks for the input. Good to know!
I have already replaced the sensor (from APP).
So... Ignitors are OK, Sensor is OK, Clock is OK, ...

Can it be anything besides the Gas Valve?

I'm still waiting on that Part, I ordered it last OCTOBER. (from APP)
It seems like everything Maytag is out of stock and on back-order
and taking forever ever since Whirlpool took over.

Thanks, Tom

Maytag has been consolidating parts into one warehouse since Whirlpool bought them out and back ordered parts have been taking longer than normal for certain.
searspartsdirect web site does have that part (12002227) in stock. assuming that you have the series 17 model. If it's series 10 then APP has that one in stock Part Details - WHIRLPOOL VALVE- OVE, part number: 74006427

That's about all it could be.

How Do I Know if I have a series 10 or 17?

Hey nat,

Thanks again for the information.
I didn't realize that Maytag made different series for their models.
How do I identify which series I own?

I bought this oven from Sears in 2001.
The image with my post is exactly what my oven looks like.

Sears has both Gas Valves in stock, but I can not see any physical difference between the two valves.

Thank you for your help,
Tom

Behind the model number there should be a series or revision number. I'm not sure the difference between the two but they do not cross reference each other, according to our suppliers.

Hey nat,

I checked with Maytag, they said my model was a series 13 and to order the gas valve that is the series 10.
That is the one I installed. (looks identical) went in no problem.

I am still back to my original problem, the oven calls for the gas, the valve opens and starts to heat, but shuts down just as it is beginning to heat.
The temperature shows 110 and I have no gas!
I noticed that the gas coming out of the valve makes a 'fluttering' noise.
Like I'm running out a gas supply, but I have city gas supply.

Could it be the pressure regulator just in front of the gas valve?
Is that an adjustor on the top?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tom

Hey nat,

WOW, What an ordeal.
June 08:
My Maytag oven wouldn't come up to baking temp of 350.
I replace the ignitors, broiler and baking - (in pairs) as recommended.
It seemed to work fine at first, but was right back to my original prob.
July 08:
After more discussion on the forum, we figured it had to be the sensor, control clock or the gas valve.
We landed on the clock and replaced that part.
It seemed to fix the problem at first again, but not for long...
Aug 08:
I replaced the oven sensor, no change.
Sept 08:
Then it had to be the gas valve and we ordered that. It was on back order, I waited for 3 months on that part...
Jan 09:
I'd still be waiting if you had not pointed out to me that Maytag oven were made in series and that I was waiting on the wrong part, the valve I needed was in stock all that time and THANKS TO YOU I was able to order the valve that I needed.
I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP, THANK YOU!
Jan 10/09:
I install that gas valve and the oven still doesn't work correctly!
When the valve opened, you could see that the flame was weak and fluttering, and then shut off and then back on/off. I thought that I had weak gas pressure, even has the Gas Co. check it out, it passed - O.K.
Jan 11/09:
I got the idea to try re-installing the original ignitor (the one was good).
The oven works perfectly like new!
This time the oven comes right up to temp in about 2 mins. It hadn't done that in a long time... all the other repairs, when the oven did work for a time, it did take about 15 mins to hit 350 temp.

So, I must have got one defective 'new' ignitor. I wanted to pass on my experience to save others the assumption that the 'new' part must be good!

Thanks for all the help, I am really glad that I can use this forum and learn so much from all the pros and other handy repair homeowners, like myself.
