My Kitchenaid icemaker worked flawlessly for the first three years I owned it, but has recently been blowing the GFI breaker. It generally blows the breaker at 2 minutes 5 seconds (125 seconds).

In past, I have reset the breaker several times over several days and eventually it will run a full cycle, produce a full bin of ice and work for several weeks. This time it won't seem to stay set.

Please advise on diagnostics, potential problems and repair advice. Thank you!

GFCI receptacles fail as frequently as any appliance component. Have an electrician test the outlet before concluding that it's your ice maker.

I finally got around to testing the GFI this weekend. The old breaker tested fine, but I replaced with with a new one. The new one tests fine and passes the wiring test, but it won't even let you reset it when the ice maker is plugged in. Remove the icemaker plug from the outlet and the breaker resets just fine.

So it appears I have an issue with the ice maker. All wires/leads appear in good condition.Other than a little dust/grease built up ion the fan blades, everything looks fine.

Can anyone suggest some things I might be able to do to determine if the location of a possible short and/or if a component has failed?

Thanks,

John
