The dishwasher does not clean well, and I would like to clean out the system. Not sure where to start. I can see vegetable matter in the spouts on the swing arms.

Here is the parts breakdown
Replacement parts for General Electric GLD5560L00SS Dishwasher | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a manual although most of this unit is different from yours the pump is basically the same.

To clean out the wash arms I find it easiest to run the unit for a minute then stop it and pull the food particles out of the holes with a pair of tweezers.
You run it to force the particles into the holes and also they pull out easier when wet. Then give it another minute of run time and do this again until all the holes are clear.
This is very tedious but I have not had much luck trying to remove the wash arms and flushing them out under a tap. Only seem to be able to get large chunks out. You put it back together and find that most of the holes just clog up again on the first run.
