My bake heating element stopped working so I ordered a replacement part. Prior to ordering the bake element I tested the broiler element and it was heating fine. The top burners were also working fine. I removed the old bake element in preparation for the new one. So just before the part arrived, my wife turned on the oven (by mistake) and she heard a “pop”. The bake element connecting wires were touching.
Needless to say after hearing the “pop” and installing the new bake element, neither this or the broiler worked. However the stovetop elements and control panel still work with clock, timer, temp etc. I took a look behind the oven and did not see anything unusual except for a little bit of black residue on the control panel. The residue was around the base of the black control panel part with a yellow “warning” label. This is also the part that the oven heating elements plug into. Am I to assume this portion of the control panel needs replacement? Or could this be anything else?

When she turned it on, you got a direct short between the two hot legs. If the wires had been tightly fitted together, it probably would have tripped your main fuse, or breaker. It sounds like you may have discovered the damage. Replace the relay board. This may fix it for you.
Afterthought: Also check the wiring ends for burn damage, before you plug in new elements.

Yes it did trip our breaker. And yes the wiring ends that connect the bake element have a slight burn. Do you have a link to the proper replacement wires and relay board (#RB787BC4BB)? Does any of this require soldering?
Thanks!

Here's the part number for the replacement control board, and high temperature repair wire. The terminal ends can be found in any electrical or electronics store; just specify, "High Temperature". Part number: AP2025090
