My whirlpool refridgerator blew a resistor off the back of the control board located under it to the left(facing) of the compressor. Its in the white box. It has 3 small relays, a small coil, severl resistors, etc. I removed the box to find that one of the thin carbon film style resistors on the back on the PCB to be blown completely off the board. I have ordered the replacment from your website, however, i am interested in the cause of the issue.
When I opened the fridge door this am I heard the pop, then the lights went dead. The fridge and freeze appear to be in working order and cooling. What I dont want to do is put the new part on and have it blow the resistor again.
Any help is appreciated.

It is a normal repair on that model. I replace a ton of them. If it happens again, you would need to replace the overload and relay kit, with a hard start kit. The part # is RCO410. Tom
