back of freezer freezes up so bad after just a couple days that no cold air gets to fridge, on a GE side by side (manuf date- ??), mdl #tfx20jrbe ww. How exactly can I check to see exactly which part is bad? I do have a multi-meter. And checked continuity on (what appears to be) the defrost heater and def. thermostat. Thats allI have found so far. We been without a working frige for a while. (have 3 not working :confused: the rest are gonna be harder I think?! )

Here are is your parts breakdown Model TFX20JRBEWWYour defrost heater is Item 257 in Section 7 When you measured the defrost heater and thermostat did you remove at least one side from the wiring just to be sure that you did not measure an alternate/parallel circuit path. If OK then Odds are very high that it is the timer that is kaput. Take a screw driver and a dime and rotate the timer cam till the freezer fan goes off. You are now in a defrost. Check the defrost heater, is it on. Don't burn your fingers. If on then your timer is shot. This is just a fast way to check if the timer cam is rotating. Remember to advance it back into chill mode. Another way is to mark the cam and the timer body with one line. Give it a couple hours if the line still lines up the timer is shot (not advancing). I really can't find the timer. But I did just notice the Manufactured date:9/1999. Is there any way you can give me a better idea where to look for it? Thanx a ton for the help!

I'm so sorry for "jumping" on here so quick! BUT Check it out...> I did find the knob and got the freezer fan to shut off, the heater didn't come on. But the 1st time I did it, I didn't check the heater before I turned it too far, and 'something' was happening, cause when I turned it another 1/2 turn the bulb got brighter. But not the second time. ??? I'll watch to see if it turns tomorrow morn. And try to figure out how to take the wires loose in the freezer too, to check the continuity correctly. I am really confused now. I managed to get the defrost heater out, and even though the ends seem like their comming off/loose, it does have continuity @ 20M, not before. The timer is rotating and the fan does click off occationally. The thermostat does have continuity too. The THICK blue and pink wires do not have continuity, but I take it they are power wires?? I got voltage to them when I got the fan to go off, that would mean the heater is out right?

If by 20m you mean the heater measured 20 megohms then it is shot, should be around 20 ohms. |
