How do I seat the new direct drive washer motor coupling (AP3963893) so that it is flush on the gear box? I removed the damaged one, but the new one only seats about 1/2 way down. I've tapped it very lightly, but it doesn't want to go down any further... I'm afraid of damaging it by forcing it...

Help/suggestions would be appreciated!

I place a 1/2" socket or nut driver over it and tap with a light hammer or mallot, until it's flush with the end of the shaft.
