We are having problems with our gas oven. First of all the broiler and the range work fine. The oven is another story. When we turn on the oven the glo light comes on. If the oven does actually come on it takes forever and we get a loud bang. The oven may come on and stay on or it may go off when it should come back on to re-heat up to a certain temperature. I have had two appliance men tell me two different parts that need to be replaced. One told me the oven igniter needs to be replaced and the other told me the gas valve. I don't know who to believe or where to start. If the gas valve was bad would the range top and broiler still work properly? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nancy,

Most likely the problem is a bad oven igniter but there is a small (about 5%) chance the gas valve is bad too. I would recommend to replace the igniter first.

- The part number for the Bake igniter is Part number: AP172397
Part number: AP172397

You can use the mounting bracket from the old igniter.

Call the customer service (877-477-7278) for ETA on this part.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Amana range Model ARG7600LL

Gene-

Thanks for your help. One more question. If we lightly tap on the gas valve the oven ignites. Would that make your answer to the problem any different?

You can learn how the igniter and gas valve work from one of our previous posts: http://forum.appliancepartspros...1897-oven-wont-lite.html
