My washer is a Maytag Neptune front loader and I was able to buy it for $25.00 because the owner said that it needs a "speed sensor" because the washer works well except that when it spins it doesn't spin fast enough to extract all the water from the clothes. He was told that the price of the part would be about $125.00 plus labor and gave us the business card of the repair person who is familiar with this particular washer.
What I would like to know is if it indeed does sound like a speed sensor issue, or is there something else that could cause the washer to not fully extract the water. Also, is there a place where we could buy a speed sensor at a lower price, and possibly install it ourselves?

There is no any speed sensor in this washer. The speed controls by the motor control board. You may want to run the washer yourself, observing all its functions and indicator lights on the control panel and then posting the results. There is the well known problem with this model which is a bad wax motor in the latch assembly causing a damage to the machine control board. So you have to look specifically at the door lock indicator light when it comes to the spin cycle. Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for MAYTAG MAH3000AWW WASHER- HORIZONTAL AXIS | AppliancePartsPros.comGene.

Thanks much for the information. I don't have the option of running the machine yet as we are in the process of remodeling and don't have running water yet. I'll talk to the technician to get more detailed info. It's probably a case of him trying to simplify the explaination for me. He quoted about 125.00 + labor, so I sure hope he can stay with that quote, because when I checked out your link, those parts are scary pricey:eek:
