Although the water pump seems to work properly, it is very noisy when pumping. The noise is like a loud growl. Otherwise the washer is very quiet when running. It has been this way since new, so I am not sure whether or not the noise is normal for this brand. Anyone have an opinion? Thank you.

The noise is not normal, so either the pump is defective from the start, or the manufacturng process left something in it.
Clean it out, and if you cannot live with it, go ahead and replace it.

Thank you for the response. I disassembled the water pump and it was clear; however, I found a cylindrical strainer within the rubber boot that attaches the washer tub to the pump that was full of debri. It contained $2.07 worth of change, a 5/16" nut and several pieces of plastic from a damaged agitator. I cleaned the strainer and the noise disappeared. Thank you for your input.

Happens a lot, glad you found the problem, and came out ahead on the change.
