Have a puzzle. This dishwasher has been working relatively fine until yesterday. It was a bit noisy because the plastic fan was ticking on the top of the motor frame. Other than that, though, worked fine.
Suddenly it will not pump water to wash or to drain. Disassembled from the spray tower down to the drain impeller and all looks fine. Seal is great, no leakage underneath. I didn't find much for debris, little bits of fiber here and there. Blew out through the drain and it is clear to the garbage disposal. The motor runs in the appropriate directions at the appropriate times, the water level looks right (just over the heating element), I would think if the motor were running too slow due to a starting relay problem, it should be growling and overheating. It doesn't seem to be. I don't understand what could suddenly happen that would cause it to not pump for wash or drain since it is two different impellers and pumps.
Any ideas????

The first time I had it apart, I reached into the pump and turned the impeller. Could see the motor turning below and thought no more. However, took it apart a second time and held the fan below while turning the impeller on top and they turn independently. The molded plastic fan/spindle had failed, probably due to excessive heat at the seal at some point. There was some friction but not enough to drive the impeller. This is in a seasonal home and I suspect it was started dry at some time, maybe several times. Apparently the seal generated enough heat to cause the plastic to fail. Looks like the motor is not available by itself, just the whole pump assembly. Oh well. At least it is now obvious what broke.
