The right rear, dual element burner of my cooktop has ceased working and the hot surface indicator light is staying on. My thinking is the switch to the element went bad, but after reading up, I wondered if it could be the element itself(guessing no because wouldn't one of them still work?) or a wire to the element from the switch. Is the light also staying on some kind of a clue? Maybe it is something else? Speaking of which, I'll bet the wiring diagram would give a clue, but I'm clueless:eek: in reading them. Any help appreciated, Ean

The hot surface indicator points toward the infinite switch being the culprit.

Depends where it burns out.
You could check the element with a meter each one should be about 40 to 50 ohms. You may even be able to see if it is nurned out.

or a wire to the element from the switch.[/COLOR]
Possible but then the light should not come on.

Something else is always a possibility it is a matter of odds.
There are always weird things that may happen.

Appreciate the feedback. Is infinite switch the one that turns that element on and off (#15 in parts drawing)? Are element not working and hot surface light continuously on possibly 2 different faults? If so would appreciate possible causes for each. Other three elements working fine. Thanks,

Evan

No the switches are Item 7 in Section 1.
I believe the one you need is AP3032573 but would confirm this when ordering.

Odds are very high that it is just the switch since both problems showed up at the same time and the switch does control the light.

Thank you so much for the knowledge and replies. I'll order the switch. any trick to replacing it besides making sure the power to the cooktop is cut? Thanks,

Evan

Should be straight for ward.

Either do one wire at a time or make yourself a note of which wire goes where.

You would be surprised how many people disconnect all the wires and then cannot remember where they go.
