 Hi, my Maytag washer agitator "floats" to the top during use. I can pull the spiral part of the agitator up and out of the washer with ease, which I believe is undesirable. This happened after a "friend" tried to remove the agitator by jerking hard on it upward and I believe he broke or lost something in the assembly. Can you tell me what I can do to fix it. The washer is in great shape except for this which causes it not to properly clean the clothes. Thank you, Keith

There is a set or locking screw that holds it on. See this diagram.

hi again. i don't think i explained well enough my problem. the part of the agitator where it is spiraled (about 1/3 the way from the bottom of the agitator) separates. it looks like it should have had some type of spring or clip holding these pieces together but has been lost due to my brother "snatching" on the top part of the agitator. i can purchase the complete agitator for 58 bucks but it seems a waste if i can buy some type of rebuild kit for this. i hope this helps you to help me. thank you for your respose and have a great day, i look forward to your reply. thanks, keith

Hi Keith

Those of us who reply on this site are not associated with APP parts operations, so we can only go with what is on the site. I did look on other sites and all of them including this one sell the agitator as a unit.

If there are used appliance stores in your area, or resale stores supported by non-profits they may have a parts machine for this model (the agitator is common to a fair number of models) and can sell you just the parts you need.

The only other advice I can offer is for you to hit your brother of for some of the cost although mine would say stuff it, so don't know how successful you can be.
