My oven doesn't seem to bake properly at times. It takes a long time to bake items. the other night it wouldn't broil toast. Sometimes it works fine and other times it doesn't. This morning we checked and the top and bottom heating element came on and got red hot. If I replace the control panel will this fix the problem?

I could not find any info on a PXY8, the following is for PXYB0 Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL RB260PXYB0 | AppliancePartsPros.com If I replace the control panel will this fix the problem? Your problem is intermittent so I cannot say that the control board will fix it. It could also be a bad sensor (Item 67 in Section 2) or a bad connection somewhere in the unit. The control board (Item 9 in Section1) shows Requires Special Attention which often translates into obsolete, you would have to call to see if it is available. I would unplug the unit. And check for good connection from the sensor to the control board. Check that the wires are properly crimped. Check all connections. Check that the pins are clean. Perhaps clean them with some isopropyl alcohol or electronics cleaner and a tooth brush. Just be sure all the solvent evaporates before reconnecting. Check for any signs of pitting on connections as this is an indication of arcing. Check the control board for cold solder joints. They are often a dull grey or have pin holes. Also wiggle the component to see if it's leg moves on the solder side of the board. A magnifying glass can help here. This may be difficult because of the way they assembled the control board. I cannot say if it is worth trying a new sensor at $30.00 dollars it may be worth it but that is a call only you can make. Personalty I would pull it apart do the checks. If you find something great. If not and if it is still intermittent then I would start looking for a replacement on sale as the sensor is just a $30.00 gamble. |
