I replaced a faulty rotary start switch and now the dryer turns on automatically when the door is closed. I tried reversing the spade wires on the switch, but then the dryer only runs if you hold the switch in the start position. Release and it stops. I'm wondering if I have other problems or I have one of the three wires in the wrong male end of the switch?

Here are your parts Replacement parts for General Electric DWSR405EB2WW Electric dryer | AppliancePartsPros.comHere is an example GE wiring diagram http://www.applianceaid.com/newimages/ge-newelec-diagram.JPGI cannot get tech info on specific GE units, they like to keep everything a secret so am totally guessing here. The correct wiring would be when the unit only runs when the start switch is at start. You will see that the start switch is wired in parallel with one of the motor's centrifugal switches. This switch switches out the start winding and also switches in a parallel circuit path so you can release the start switch and the unit keeps running. It does this when the motor gets close to operating speed. You will also see that the belt (idler) sensing switch is also in this circuit path. So odds are either the centrifugal switch or the belt switch has a problem. |
