Hi,
My Sears Kenmore Elite 665.1312 dishwasher (just over 2 years old) will not run.
(it has worked fine till now)
When I try to start a cycle, the start/resume light flashes.

Typically, this light will flash if you open the door during a cleaning cycle.
In that case you simply close the door and press the button next to the light.

I cut the power to the dishwasher at the circuit breaker, waited a minute, and turned it back on but that did not help.

Even though I insure that the door is fully closed, I cannot start a cleaning cycle.

Any help is greatly apprecieated!

Bill,

Open the control panel and check the door switches for continuity. Make sure they are properly engaged when the door is closed.

If there is nothing wrong, replace the console. If you would need the correct part number, post the color of the console.

Gene.

Thanks Gene!
The console is black.
How do I open the control panel?

Had the same thing. Flashing start button. Turned off the power. Took off the inside panel on the door. Removed the touchpad ribbon cable from the control board. The problem was the broken traces on the ribbon cable. So I went to the automotive store and asked for the kit that repairs the rear defroster grid. It has a paint in there that is conductive. I saw where the traces where broken so I used a really sharp exacto blade (you should consider sand paper) to remove the covering so that it exposes the metal trace. Than I painted the line with a toothpick to make sure it connected the trace. Covered most of the area with plastic and tape so it is not exposed. Turned on the power. Brilliant!!!!!!!!!! It worked like a charm and I saved myself $150.

Thanks Gene, you gave me the hint I needed to fix my issue with the dishwasher. I checked the door latching mechanism on top behind the control panel and discovered the latch was sticking. The machine must have thought the door was closed and was not accepting commands, flashing the start button and beeping. Shot some tuner cleaner (radio shack not that it matters), exercised the switch gently with a small screwdriver and now it moves freely, problem solved!
