the fridge is freezing food items - I've tried adjusting the temperature down to 1 even and it's not helping - everything from bottom to top is frozen (with exception of items on door?)
the freezer is also leaking water periodically out of it's bottom - upon opening a puddle has turned into ice
please help!

I have this very same problem. I have defrosted and cleaned out the drain two times and in a couple days I have more ice in the bottom. I really need some advice. It's a ge side by side. After a few days after cleaning the drain all the food in the refriderator section starts freezing.

Hi, thank you so much for responding. Here is the verdict. I took it apart again and shoved a smaller tube down the drain and it came out the other end along with the water I put in there. I am thinking now it's not the drain.

I took off the back panel in the freezer section to find all the coils frosted up and there were ice cicles on the bottom of the panel. Do you know what else might be the problem from this description of symptoms? I do appreciate your help very much.

Ok, I had a repair man come by and replace a latch on my front loading washing machine and I told him the problems I had with my Samsung side by side refrigerator that water leaked and over time the there was a sheet of ice that would collect and I would have to eventually remove the ice manually with hot water and baster... He told me they figured out the problem. Here is the solution:
On other discussions, people have mentioned about removing the panel at the back when you remove the fridge racks. Well you do have to do this so follow those instructions on removing it. You will take the baster with hot water and melt the ice...unplug the fridge of course. The coils that may have ice that you see in front of you also have a copper wire that runs throughout them. This wire is a heating element it heats up when ice forms melts it and this water now drips down into a reservoir. Well the problem is the reservoir is plugged with ice. If you look at the reservoir, there is a tab that has another copper wire attached to it this copper wire hangs in the reservoir and it also conducts heat, this prevents icing, but the problem is that it cont to occur. Here is where the problem is. The freaking wire is not long enough. It goes down into the well, but not far enough it is roughly about 2 inches too short. this wire should go down to the opening and this doesn't happen. Over a short period of time the water drips down and once it passes the hot wire into the space where there is no wire the drops of water that collect on the side, begin to freeze until an ice plug is formed then it works its way back up the reservoir and you have a huge ice "cork" as I call it. The dripping water rolls off collecting at the lower pan under your crisper eventually freezing a sheet of ice. Simple fix pull out that dangling wire and put a longer wire, problem solved. I would definitely measure the length needed as 2 inches is a rough estimate. Measure twice cut once. I hope this solves those problems that I have had for 3 years now. This problems was fixed in 30 minutes.
