Hi everyone... My 1st post. Trying to help out my elderly parents.. Standard fridge on bottom runs 30 deg no matter where temp dial is set. Freezer on top fine around 0 deg. I suspected it was the temp adjustment knob malfunctioning. I pulled it down [ power off] Put an ohm meter between the silver [hardwired] wire and the connector where I removed the grn/yel wire. I then cycled the temp dial. Ohm meter stayed at 0 ohms, or totally open when in the off position. Does that telll me that part is bad ? Wouldnt the resistance increase as I turned the temp dial up ? BTW same result with the meter hooked up between red and blk lead terminals and temp dial cycled. Thanks a million !:D What to try next ??? poolsidepaul attached the following image(s):

Poolside, Mosty everything in the fresh food compartment is freezing, correct ? The cold control, doesn't work the wat you described in your post, There in no resistance change, that switch is an open circuit in the off posiion and a closed circuit in any other setting. You need to check that circuit, with the black and red wires off the control,and across the switch terminals. almost like you did before. The silver"wire" is a cappillary tube(fluid filled) not a wire, when the fluid expands and contracts, based on temperature, it opens and closes the circuit to the compressor and turns it ON or Off. A quick test for the control, turn the control on, take the end of the cappillary tube and set it in a glass of iced water, and allow it time to get cold and see if the switch opens. Also check that the temperature bulb is installed on the temperature mass barrel and that the barrel is in the air flow at the damper / diffuser area, that's a more common problem with this style refrigerator. Usually some one bangs the temperature mass barrel, by accident and the mass is moved and is no longer in the air flow properly, and the temperatures run too cold. :) :) :)

:) :) :) ...for frige area frosting food because after reading the forums I could not find a similar problem with same unit until I found the one here by Poolsidepaul with the same cold control that I had, which incidently, was told was discontinued and unavailable until I sent them poolside's pic. Your extensive diagnostic test with the cup of ice and meter was great!! thanks again to you and poolside.
