I have a double oven Jenn Air where the top oven works fine, but the bottom oven generates a code "Fr" whenever you try to use it (hit bake, enter temp, it seems to want to start working then stops and beeps with code Fr (at least it looks like a lower case R).

I ordered and replaced the temperature sensor which did not help. A useful sign that both the old and new sensors were working correctly is that when the sensor was disconnected, the cabinet fan (not convection fan) on the oven turned on (like the oven was hot).

Anyway, it looks like I still have a problem which is now pointing me towards the relay board. Unfortunately, there are two relay boards listed in the parts so I don't know which one to order (I'm leaning towards the "lower" board since that's the oven having problems).

So my questions are: a) is replacing the relay board the right thing to do at this time and b) which relay board should I replace?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Conor,

You had it all along, Yes the code "Fr" was in regards to the lower oven sensor or relay board

The lower oven board was not communicating properly to the upper(main)oven control/relay board.

Yes, order and replace the Lower Oven Relay board, leave the new sensor installed(just in case), double check the wiring for loose connections and possible damage, and you'll be alright.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)

I just replaced the clock programming board so the display is now working. I have same issue as this post described (very seldom used) lower over not heating. I can now see the error code "Fr" when I enter temperature and hit 'Bake'. There is short pause then error comes up. Should I replace the 'Long Oven Sensor' or 'Relay Board' as first try. As I mentioned, the lower oven has very little mileage on it and has intermittently worked over past few years, but we just stopped trying. I already did a 'loose wire' check on the relay board without success.

Thanks,

Try2repair, You'll need to do two things to determine the issue. First disconnect the J9 (orange connector) from the "main" board on the right side of the control area and check across the two purple wires in the harness for 1050 to 1100 ohms resistance with a meter. If you have the correct resistance, then the lower oven sensor [AP4009009] and wiring should be fine. Then check the J7 (brown connector) wire harness between the two boards, make sure there are no loose connections or wires. If all's OK then you'll need to replace the lower oven (auxilary) relay board [AP4009507] .
